Self-Neglect Thematic Review (March 2022)

The Hampshire Safeguarding Adults Board (HSAB) has today published an independent thematic Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) into the circumstances surrounding six individual cases of Self Neglect which resulted in the deaths of those involved.  Firstly, the HSAB would like to express its sincere condolences to each of the families involved.  Where possible, the families concerned have been involved throughout the review process and have been kept fully informed of the findings and the recommendations.

The purpose of this thematic SAR was to gain learning and identify themes that were common across the six cases that each involved aspects of self-neglect.  A number of learning points have been identified which have been shared with the agencies involved in the review. Now that the recommendations have been shared and published, relevant agencies will now develop detailed action plans to address any shortcomings which will be reviewed and monitored by the Board.  This will ensure that relevant learning is taken on board in the provision of future care and support to adults experiencing aspects of self-neglect.
