We have received the following information from Radian, regarding their plans for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day:
Radian are joining people across the world preparing activities in readiness of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on Friday 15 June. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons.
Working together, we can build the social supports that can prevent elder abuse.
At Radian, our sheltered schemes are highlighting key messages to raise awareness of abuse and neglect and what to do if it affects you or anyone you know.
We all deserve to lead happy and healthy lives free from abuse as we age, yet older people are mistreated more often than we think. Despite the conversations we have, rarely do we have conversations about mistreatment and what to do if you have concerns. WEAAD provides the opportunity to do so.
Our sheltered schemes will dedicate a coffee morning to WEAAD, promoting understanding and the support that is available though www.radian.co.uk/safeguarding, the Action on Elder Abuse Helpline 080 8808 8141, and their website www.elderabuse.org.uk.
Join us in supporting the work of Action on Elder Abuse.
We are inviting participants and staff to donate to Action on Elder Abuse through the purple ribbon campaign and donate for cake at coffee mornings. We are also organising ‘shred-a-thon’ activities for all our sheltered residents, enabling us to strengthen personal information by making sure it is securely destroyed, protecting against fraudulent abuse.
